College Life
12.21.03 - This section is like a journal. There won't be any structure of topics, dates, or anything. Instead, when anything about college annoys or pleases me, I'll write it in here to share it with you. Hopefully after a while you can get a real picture of what an average guy's average college day is like. Also, FYI - I probably won't write another entry any time before I get back to school, which will be early January.

So what is college like? Well, I'll just start off, in this first entry, by saying it's a lot different from high school.

In high school I rarely studied for anything. My last two years of high school, I barely did any homework at home. Aside from major projects, I could finish all my homework while still in class.

Here in college, it's not that easy. Most of my teachers don't even give me homework, they just expect me to know it when I show up for tests. And let me tell ya', if you procrastinate, and try to cram for a huge test the night before, you probably won't do well. You'll get so tired and so stressed out that you'll stop caring, and stop studying, and likely not do well on the test.

Though the schoolwork is much harder than high school, it is not the hardest part of college. The hardest part is finding time for everything! Sometimes, at the end of the day, I look back and realize that I haven't done any homework...but I haven't done anything I wanted to do either! I don't know where the time went, usually I literally can't remember! Note that it's not until I get to Christmas break that I have time to start this section.

Living on your own can be really hard at times. Usually, the day after I buy groceries (with very limited funds), I look through my food and say "Jeez, nothing looks good." When I try to do my laundry, only half the driers work half the time, so I have to tie rope around my room to make a clothesline. (That's after wasting a few bucks finding out the driers aren't going to work that night). The housing guys recently installed new fluorescent lights in our dorm rooms that give me headaches.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, the schoolwork is harder and there's a lot more BS you have to put up with. In the end, though, the education is definitely worth it.
