Early to Bed, Early to Rise
Yesterday morning, something amazing (and rare) happened: I woke up early. I know it's hard to believe, but I really did set my alarm clock
and wake up early. I had discovered the night before that the battery in my truck was dead. My friend Jake and I push-started it, drove around
the block, and tried to start it again. No luck. The only solution was to take it to an auto parts store the next day. I didn't know how
long this would take, so I wanted to get an early start.
After waking up early and driving to Advance Auto Parts, a friendly guy tested my battery and we found it was bad. He replaced it with a
new one and then we tested the alternator. Luckily that was OK. Then we were back to the dorm in an hour! It was awesome! (I don't mean
to sound like an advertisement, I just really appreciated their help. What goes around comes around.)
The rest of the day was great. I went out to lunch, went canoeing, played video games with friends, played two hours of racquetball,
started cleaning my room, then hung out with friends the rest of the night. Yesterday was what weekends are supposed to be like, fitting
a ton of fun stuff into these two short days.
But because I stayed up late last night hanging out with friends, etc, I woke up late today. Now that I woke up late, my site updates are
later than usual, I don't have much time to clean up the mess I made yesterday, and I probably wouldn't even have enough time to go canoeing
before we had to return the canoe to the recreation center (which closes early on Sundays). What a mess!
So now I'm starting to believe the old adage. Waking up early allowed me to do so much yesterday, and waking up late today has only
hindered me. I'm going to try to start waking up early and being productive all day long. I am going to finish my homework during the
week and play hard on the weekends. It's going to be extremely difficult. But one thing I love more than sleeping late is the good feeling
when looking back on a long, full day. I'm glad I have been enlightened.
