I Was Thinking

If there's one thing I learned from high school, it's that you can't plan ahead too much. If you think too much, you will probably go crazy. In high school I knew people who talked a mile a minute about all the homework and after school stuff they had to do. I sat back and didn't worry much about those things. All that crap will just happen - no point in thinking/worrying too much about it beforehand. Also, if you think too much, you might end up not doing a lot of the crazy things that turn out to be really fun.

Now if there's one thing I learned in college, it's that this philosophy doesn't always work. The main problem is that homework is not easy in college. It requires thought. That means it is not only harder but also takes a lot longer to do than high school homework. If you don't plan ahead, a lot of times you won't finish in time.

Another thing about college (in my case) is that you are sort of on your own. My parents are still there to support me when I need it, but I now buy my own food. I'm convinced that grocery shopping is a skill that can only be mastered after long years of practice. That's just one example. Even little things like toothpaste - Mom and Dad always made sure we never ran out, but now I always forget to buy it before I run out because I don't think ahead.

I guess the key in this situation, as it is with many others, is to find the balance. I can't waste time thinking about too many little things, and I also can't think so much that I never act irrationally. (Sometimes it's good to do some crazy stuff). At the same time, I have to make sure that all of the important things, like school projects and toothpaste, are taken care of.

Time to continue with my quest of finding The Golden Mean.
