Tourists
Tourists are a strange breed, and a tricky subject. I love having relatives come down for vacations to
stay at our house. I want to take them to the beach and share with them the beauty that I take for granted
every day. I want to make sure they have a great time, and that they leave Florida with many wonderful
memories.
But now that I work around tourists so much, I've found that I don't like a lot of them. It's their
arrogance!
If you go kayaking and/or snorkeling, you have to watch out for all the tourists on jet skis, who
are coming too close to the beaches. And they think they're so cool! Paying enormous fees to
ride around on those rediculous machines. And then there's the huge strong guys who come to the
beach with their cowboy hats, footballs, and overpowering cologne. And the snobby rich girls who
don't want to get their hair wet, and do nothing but walk down the beach (with the most serious
look on their face) so that they can show themselves off. Lighten up for crying out loud!
At least there is hope. Most of the tourists I work with are actually very nice. They are talkative,
laid back, and very nice to me even though I am just their lowly attendant. These are the tourists I
love to work with. Nice people who love to BS and have a good time - 'cause in the end that's what
life is all about.
So to sum it up, I guess I don't like some tourists for the same reasons I don't like some locals. A lot
of them need to adopt the "beach attitude" and just lighten up! :)
