What Happened?
Unfortunately I went and saw Sponge Bob the Movie the yesterday. It was worse than retarded. It was just plain awful.
I'd be lying if I said that I didn't laugh at all during the movie - there were a few funny parts. But mostly it was just stupid.
In one scene, Bob and his friend are washing their hands in the bathroom and make a bubble. They then declare that this is a "Happy
Slappy Bubble Blowing Party" (or something equally stupid) and begin to shout and dance around. The movie literally went back and forth
between Bob and his friend, just shouting over and over again with drool coming out of their mouths.
What the hell happened? What happened to cartoons? There are actually a lot of great cartoons for adults to watch these
days. But kids don't have any! Today kids watch either crappily-drawn cartoons about stupid kids or anime. Both of these kinds
of cartoons cannot compare to the awesome cartoons I grew up with, like Tom & Jerry, Bugs Bunny, and good ol' Wile E. Coyote. Sure,
we had some bad ones too (Sponge Bob reminds me of Ren & Stimpy), but the cartoons for kids these days just don't even make me laugh.
Tom & Jerry, though, still crack me up even though I've seen every single one of their cartoons several times.
I won't go into my cartoon philosophy any more tonight. I just think it's sad that the only animation kids can choose from these days are
thirty minute cartoons about retarded sea creatures or about nonexistent creatures fighting each other to save the universe.
