Blogs

Most of you probably know that my site is really just a blog. I tried to make it sound better by calling these "philosophy articles," but really, it's just a blog. A blog stands for a web log, and it's basically an online diary/journal. At first thought it sounds pretty weird - I mean why would you put all of your personal feelings and beliefs in a journal that everyone could read!?

I think I know why blogs have become so popular lately - it's easy. They are easy to make - there are several sites out there that will set you up with your own blog space for free. Many of my friends have them.

But that's not really what I meant by easy. Blogs are, for many people, the easiest way to express themselves. Think about it - it is usually hard to share your most profound, mysterious feelings even with people that you know very well. But if you have a blog, well, you can just type it in. It is a lot easier to share deep feelings with a computer screen than it is to look someone in the face and do it. Also, it's easier to put your thoughts online because most of the people reading them will be complete strangers. Whether they agree or disagree, you don't have to care. You'll never even know their real name.

I'm not trying to be condescending, of course. I love blogs for all these reasons. Having this blog has helped me think and write more than I ever have before. And for whatever weird reason, I'm glad that I can go online and see what my friends are thinking about - usually thoughts they'd never bring up normally.
